"St. Anthony's church" - Korcula

Where is St. Anthony's church?

St. Anthony's church was built on the top of the hill which used to be an observation post for the ancient Illyrians, who kept a vigilant eye all the ships arriving from Dubrovnik and Mljet.
On the sight of a pirate ship people would retreat deeper into the inland.
View from St. Anthony's hill is truly striking: it seems as though you have the whole archipelago on the palm of your hand, bat also the sea passage along the southern shores of Pelješac and the entrance into the canal itself.

St. Anthony's church was renovated in the 17 th. century by bishop Nikola Španic (NICOLAUS DE COMITIBUS SPANICH EPISCOPUS CURZULENSIS ). There is also an interesting details, ascent leading to the church consists of 101 stone step.
